ABOUT “THE FARM”

OUR VISION

We are super excited to bring our dream: ‘The Farm – Animal Therapy Adventures’ out into the world. I feel that our families’ life experiences: raising 3 incredible children, 2 of which have had challenging conditions, as well as our background in working closely with animals through our Veterinary Clinics and Hospitals, teaching early childhood and primary aged students and owner operating a school camp have led us to this next chapter in bringing the long held dream of creating a Therapy centre where our clients can enjoy the calming effects of interacting with animals in an outdoor environment!

The vision is for an Allied Health Centre with 4 treatment rooms, a sensory gym shed, 5 bay indoor stables plus additional space for wet weather back-up, 6 individual day yards with shelters for our baby farm animals, a 75m x 55m horse riding arena, 11 gorgeous horses and ponies, plus a miniature horse, playgrounds, cubby houses, springfree trampolines and the following services for our special needs clients who are either plan managing or self managing their NDIS plans.  Equine therapy and Animal therapy will be offered by our team of highly skilled professionals who all share a common love for animals.

• We believe that all children thrive in an outdoor environment surrounded by nature.

• We believe that this is particularly true for children with special needs.

• We believe that play is the work of a child.

• We believe a large majority of children, thrive from the calming effect of interactions with animals.

• We believe that wherever possible, therapy should be play based, provided in an outdoor environment and utilising the multiple benefits that come from interacting with animals and nature and away from the multiple stressors of our modern day lifestyle.

• We also believe, that the same principles apply to the majority of adults and particularly those with special needs.

• We believe that parents and carers of children with special needs deserve an all encompassing therapy and educational environment where they feel truly listened to, uplifted, celebrated and supported.

• We believe that family bonds can be strengthened when siblings of children with special needs get to engage in desired activities because of their sibling with special needs, instead of always missing out on such activities because of their children with special needs.

• We believe face to face support groups are incredibly valuable for parents – ideally where provision can be made to support their loved ones whilst they attend and can truly relax.

• We believe that Dad’s are often a minority group who are by and large unsupported and unlikely to discuss their own emotions and needs as  special needs parents.

• We believe there is still a lack of true community for all special needs families to feel supported within the Northern Side of Brisbane.

• We believe in creating community with future options via SDA for participants.

• We believe in developing a truly accessible gym (farm gym) for residents with special needs and physical disabilities within the North Brisbane community.

• We believe in providing top level and top quality service for all our participants.

• We believe in assisting each and every unique participant to reach their own full potential, to believe in themselves and to boost their own self confidence.

• We believe in providing employment pathways within our organisation wherever possible for participants living with disabilities and their parents/carers who may be attempting to return to the workforce. 

• I believe in a bonus system being in place for any staff who may be on a straight employment agreement.

• I believe in the value of upskilling to ensure our operation is always not only up to date with current practices but has access to cutting edge information.
